Self Game Drive

Lake Eland has a variety of routes that one can select depending on the amount of time you have to spend touring the Game Reserve. The roads are well maintained to accommodate all vehicles. You do not need a 4x4 to drive around the game reserve.

For a full day spent at Lake Eland, our scenic drive through the whole reserve, including a visit to the suspension bridge and caves takes approximately 3 hours. For those with less time, a shorter route around lasso loop up to the caves and suspension bridge, takes approximately an hour.

Restaurant

Lake Eland’s Restaurant provides an indoor dining area, as well as an outdoor deck, overlooking the game reserve and a small dam. Lake Eland’s menu has been specifically designed by our executive chef to create a simple yet diverse selection of flavours and dishes. Our famous venison burgers are a much loved favourite among visitors. Our fully licensed outdoor bar provides the perfect venue to watch the rugby on our flat screen TV.

Picnic / Braai facilities

Picnic and braai facilities are available on the game reserve, a short drive from the reception. The picnic areas are ideally situated nearby a stream amongst lush old trees providing shade for those hot summer days. Each picnic spot has a braai and rustic benches.

Suspension Bridge and View Sites

One of the main highlights for guests visiting Lake Eland Game Reserve is to walk across our 80m Suspension Bridge. Not only is it exhilarating to walk across the Suspension Bridge, but it is quite an achievement for many of us who are fearful of heights. The views from the suspension bridge are breathtaking and you will be inspired by the magnificence and grandeur of the Oribi Gorge.

We have a saying in South Africa "Africa isn't for sissies" and this adventurous walk across the bridge is definitely not for the faint-hearted. For those of you who are still considering whether or not to take the challenge and cross the bridge when you next visit Lake Eland, maybe this might help - Each cable that supports the Suspension Bridge can hold 70 tons, so unless you're carrying all your gym weights in your pockets, you should be just fine!
